My Fargo Fashion Diary

Hello dear hearts! Pretty soon we will be celebrating the start of a new year. Personally, I  feel like this year passed by in the blink of an eye, needless to say I am truly grateful for my 2017 journey of  happy times, challenging moments  and life lessons I was meant to learn.  Having said that, I am looking forward to all what the universe may  have in store for me in 2018 with an optimistic attitude,  a joyful spirit and courageous heart.

Although the new year promises new adventures,  I intend to  continue some of my favorite ventures, one of which is, going on road trips and visiting other towns in North Dakota with my husband, Ahamad. Since migrating to North Dakota I have grown quite fond of going on long drives on the open road as part of my quest of exploring and learning more  about this place I call, home.  So far, these road trips have shown me  that  a wealth of knowledge lies in both the journey and the destination.  For instance, during a road trip from Minot to Bismarck, I noticed the presence of  numerous astronomic wind turbines constructed on the landscape along Highway 83 and it was after seeing this I learnt that North Dakota is one of the leading states in wind power generation.

So in the spirit of learning more about North Dakota,  the hubby and I  went on a 4 hours road trip from Minot  to the city of Fargo. The city of Fargo is perhaps the most populous and diverse city of all of North Dakota. Therefore, as with any richly diverse  metropolitan places, the city of Fargo offers a multitude of entertainment activities ranging from informative visits to  historical museums and contemporary  art galleries   to attending more dynamic activities such as live concerts.

On this trip to Fargo, my outfit reflected  my penchant for color. In fact, I seemed to be  more inclined to adding pops of bold and bright colors to my outfits during the cold, wintry months. This affinity for vibrant colors can perhaps be attributed to my Caribbean spirit. In this instance, I wore an on trend,  mustard color cape jacket which I layered over my heart patterned sweater.  The cape like sleeves  design can be traced to the early 1930s but its popularity has surged in recent times with it being  incorporated in dresses, jumpsuits and jackets. The allure of the cape is based on its modish and elegant silhouette. Alongside its aesthetic appeal, the cape jacket is a versatile piece of clothing.  For instance, it can be worn in every season and be styled in several ways depending on your outfit.

In my case,  I thought it was best  to wear my cape jacket with a pair of  purple straight cut pants for that  casual, chic look  while I was out and about exploring downtown Fargo. At a first glance  I love how the solid bold hues of the cape jacket and the pants complemented each other thereby paying homage to the fashion concept of color blocking.  The cape jacket also provides  a fresh alternative to wearing heavy winter coats on those rare winter days when  the temperatures has increased and  it is not bitterly cold. Needless to say it is still wintertime, it is therefore  imperative to wear layers to guarantee being warm and  protected against the cold winter chill.

To elevate the look of my outfit I decided  to create the illusion of  a statement collar on my cape jacket. I achieved this by layering  it over a blouse which has detailed collar. Styling pieces can therefore be a creative venture to produce your own personal and unique looks. To bring my outfit together and to complete my  look I wore ankle boots.

This concludes my blog post. Thank you for stopping by and reading.

Spring in my step..

Hello my sweet friends. Lately I have been spending more time outdoors especially in parks relishing and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. For me it feels a bit therapeutic and soul healing as I  wander around the verdant landscape under the clear bright blue skies and radiant sunshine while being captivated by the sights and sounds of the environment  springing back to life  after the harsh Midwestern winter.

On that note, on a recent trip to Cottonwood Park in Bismarck, I wore a spring inspired outfit. The bold floral prints of my skirt and its kaleidoscope of colors make it the ideal spring fashion piece. The A- line silhouette  and tea length of the skirt is reminiscent of the fashion of the 1950’s however its versatility in terms of how it can be styled makes it pertinent in the present day.  For instance,  the skirt can be paired with  comfortable flat foot wear for a casual day time look or with high heels for that night time sophisticated appearance. In my case, I went for the former look by wearing a pair of polka dots ballet flats which made it the ideal footwear for a day out in the park. The polka dots on the ballet flats  also provided  the perfect accent against the intricate floral patterns.

To provide balance and symmetry to the outfit, I wore a classic black turtleneck sweater which I accessorized by utilizing the jewelry trend of layering necklaces.  For the first layer of jewelry I opted for a short length chucky floral statement piece and I complimented it with a longer delicate on trend tassel necklace. The compilation of the different lengths and types of necklaces elevated the look of  the outfit by adding a dash of vogue chic vibe.

This therefore concludes this outfit post on what I wore on my day out in Cottonwood Park. Thank you all very much for reading.

Much Love,

Hello Spring Trends

Hello sweethearts. I hope everyone is having a wonderful week thus far.

In my little corner of the world I am bidding goodbye to winter and  welcoming the rejuvenating season of spring.  We are only a few weeks into  spring , yet it is quite evident that the spring fairies are hard at work  clearing away all the remnants of winter and replacing it with longer hours of sunshiny days and  a flourishing landscape teeming with fresh blooms, new grass sprouts and chirping birds.  Therefore, spring time  is symbolic of new beginnings and a fresh start.

Given this sense of newness  associated with the season of spring, it is therefore no surprise that the fashion industry  has resourcefully embrace this period to showcase all the upcoming and new trends for the year. With that being said, some of 2017 fashion trends that we will be seeing more of are; statement sleeves exaggerated by volume and ruffles, bright bold colors, ’80s and ’90s inspired silhouettes, gender neutral pieces and  a mélange of  patterns and prints.  So given the range of versatile and artsy inspired trends  this is the year to break the mould and  be adventurous  in putting together separates to created unique outfits.

Therefore, in the spirit of  celebrating spring the best way I know,  I wore an outfit showcasing some of spring’s more popular trends, stripes and florals. Stripes are a classic print usually connected with looks that are retro chic, however  in recent times the popularity of this print has exploded with it being used to design both couture and affordable street style outfits.  Even the sweet ladylike blooms of floral prints have been rejuvenated to be incorporated into bold power looks.

In respect to my outfit, I decided to add a bit of character by layering my embroidered floral sweater over the classic blue white shirt thereby creating a statement piece.  Additionally, the timeless appeal of the buttoned down blue and white stripe shirt and the on trend over sized sweater  guaranteed the versatility of these separates.

To complete my look I wore another on trend piece, a floral embroidered slightly distressed denim jeans. Denim jeans is a wardrobe staple  because of its functionality and adaptability. And in recent times this primary piece of clothing seems to have taken a life on its own because it has evolved to include a variety of styles and designs  ranging from simple elegance to fun and trendy .  In this case, the denim jeans I wore is au courant   to the trend of  decorative statement jeans. My entire outfit is therefore a nod to some of 2017 fashion trends.

This concludes this blog post on some of spring trends.  I hope you all enjoy this post and thank you for reading.

Much love,
