Warm Winter Colours

Hello loves! I hope everyone is doing great.

Although it is still very much winter in Minot, North Dakota, in the past few days the weather has been noticeably warmer  as the temperature is slowly but surely increasing and the sun is lingering in the sky for a longer time, all subtle signs that spring is near.

As I revel in the sunshine and the warm winter days, I couldn’t resist eschewing my bulky winter outerwear for a more layered and streamlined silhouette.  Therefore, over my  thermal undergarments I wore a mid rise mustard colour jeans and paired it with a classic deep blue  double breasted geometric pattern sweater.  In terms of the sweater, I went a step further and wore a pussy bow blouse underneath thereby giving my outfit that preppy aesthetic as  the pussy bow  drapes perfectly over the neck of the sweater.

While my sweater  says chic sophistication, the  warm mustard colour of my jeans screams vibrancy and liveliness. Yet when worn together  the structure and geometric pattern of the sweater provided a wonderful contrast against the yellowish earthy hues of the mustard color jeans  thereby creating an overall  retro chic outfit. To complete my look I opted for ankle boots, the perfect footwear to transition from winter to spring.

And this concludes my blog post. Thank you all for reading.

Lots of love,

Salisha.

The Power of Pink

Hello my dearest sweethearts.

Today my blog post will be dedicated to one of fashion most ubiquitous hues, pink. For the past few years  the fashion industry has been showing its penchant for this sweet darling colour by embracing its many variations such as the lighter hues of blush pink, coral pink , salmon pink  or its bolder hues of magenta and fuchsia.  This universal acceptance can perhaps be attributed by the fact that this colour goes beyond its stereotypical connotations of  ultra feminine and all things girly. As a matter of fact in recent times the color pink in fashion is being used as a symbol of power, resilience and fortitude.

In my case, I embraced this ever popular color by donning a light pink winter coat over my chambray shirt dress for a casual chic look. What I adore about this winter coat is its versatility in terms of styling. Its pastel colour palette makes it the perfect piece to mix and match with other colors  to achieve that color block look or with prints to create uniquely beautiful outfits. The deep set pockets on the sides of the coat are an additional bonus feature, a perequisite for an ideal winter outer wear. In terms of footwear, I eschewed the conventional winter boots and wore brown oxford shoes, thereby completing this winter look.

And this concludes my blog post on the power of the color pink. Thank you all for reading.  Until next time, stay sweet my loves.

The Art of Winter

Hello again my dearest lovelies.

It’s the height of winter in Minot, North Dakota, where on most days the temperatures are  below zero degrees Celsius. Therefore  my fashion choices during this time is revolved around being warm  and comfortable.  To guarantee this I would usually  layer my clothing pieces  ensuring my winter outfits are both functional and fashionable. Besides its necessity during the winter months,  another advantage of layering that I love is its versatility by allowing me to use separate pieces to create unique outfits reflective  of my personal sense of style.  Layering can also be cost effective because the use of wardrobe staples such as the classic denim jeans pants guarantees wear in every season throughout the year.

Therefore on my visit to the North Dakota Heritage Center and Museum in Bismarck I wore an outfit that I put together by layering separate pieces for a casual chic look.  For a streamlined silhouette  against the bulky winter layers  I wore black leggings over body hugging thermal pants  supplemented by my calf high boots. The orange cable knit sweater added that pop of colour  and brightness to the otherwise muted colours of my winter outfit.  To bring the outfit together I added another layer with an on trend black and white blanket cardigan.

Furthermore, since the use of accessories are one of the best ways in ensuring that winter outfits  are kept fresh and updated I wholeheartedly embraced this trend by incorporating several accessories into my outfit.  I accessorized by draping a grey scarf over my   beaded tassel necklace and wore a knit winter headband which also doubled as an ear warmer. To completed my look I held a floral print clutch which provided a bright fun contrast against the cold winter surroundings.

And this concludes my blog post on my approached on the art of winter layering. Thank you so very much for reading.

Much Love,

Salisha

Winter Pastels

Happy January 2017 my dearest lovelies! My wish is for you all to have a year filled with lots of joyous and magical moments, for your hopes to become possibilities and for your dreams to become  a reality.

So for my first blog post for the new year I thought it would be fitting for me to begin the year wearing and incorporating some elements of color to my outfit. In this case, I purposely chose warm pastel hues for its soft, light, sweet aesthetic while simultaneously adding a touch of color with warm overtones to my winter outfit.

Since it is still winter time in Minot, North Dakota, wearing layers is imperative to staying warm and cozy .  I therefore layered a  fuzzy white sweater over a blush pink skater dress. And protected myself against the winter chill by draping a  white woolly straight cut jacket over my outfit.

In terms of accessories, I found that the  cross body tropical print clutch contrasted wonderfully against this winter outfit. Because the leafy tropical print it is symbolic of warm summer days and reminiscent of my home in Trinidad.  More so, the greenish hues on the cross body clutch is  a nod towards 2017 Pantone’s  color of the year- greenery, which is representative of  life, growth and vitality, a fitting color to begin the year with.

In respect to winter headwear, pom pom beanies are more popular than ever. So to complete my winter look, I wore a dark blue pom pom beanie  which provided that pop of color  and  perfect contrast against the pastel colors of my winter ensemble. For my winter foot wear, I decided to wear ankle boots because it gave balance to the outfit in terms of proportion.

Thank you sweethearts for your support and for reading. So  until my next blog post I am sending you all much love and positive thoughts.

Fashion in a Winter Wonderland

Happy Holidays my dearest lovelies!

I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the Christmas season.  For me Christmas time can simply be described as euphoric. It is one of the most magical and wonderful time of the year because there is a greater sense of togetherness, goodwill and cheer characterized by the extra effort people usually make to show their love and appreciation for each other, family and friends.

This year I will be spending Christmas in wintery Minot, North Dakota. Despite the sub zero temperatures, a picture perfect winter wonderland has been created by  the snow covered landscape and snow draped evergreens which is reminiscent of  those quaint winter romantic settings  as seen in Christmas holiday movies.

Therefore, to ensure that I am able to enjoy the winter season my sense of style during this time will be focused on dressing to ensure that I am both warm and stylish at the same time. To remain warm I usually layer my clothes, for instance, in this case I wore a sweater over a peter pan collar blouse with a pussy bow for that added chic look. However, since it is winter time I went a step further and  wore an extra layer by wearing thermal leggings as my first layer beneath all of my clothes. Thermal or insulated  clothing is  guaranteed to be one of the best ways to ensure being warm during the cold winter season.

Winter fashion however is mainly characterized by outerwear such as coats, hats, scarves and gloves. It is therefore important to invest in some quality pieces to ensure that you are not only protected against the harsh winter conditions but guaranteed versatility in terms of being long lasting and timeless.

With that being said, for my stroll in winter wonderland I wore a  classic double breasted camel toned trench coat which I purchased from Coach.  The gorgeous neutral color of the coat makes it a wardrobe essential  because it guarantees me flexibility in terms of styling. For example, in this case I  wanted the coat to be the focus of my outfit so I buttoned it over my sweater and trouser and  cinched my waist with the adjustable belt for a more refined ladylike silhouette. For that element of vintage sophistication I accessorized by wearing a dark brown flower felt cloche hat which gave the outfit that touch of old Hollywood glamour from circa the 1940s.

The dark brown of the cloche hat also brought balance and harmony to the outfit since it contrasted perfectly against the neutral tone of the camel coat. In adhering to the neutral color palette, I completed my look by wearing a pair of grey gloves with bows sewn on them which provided a bit of sweet charm to the look of the entire outfit.

I hope you lovelies enjoy this blog post and pictures. Until next time stay sweet and safe….
