One Dress, Two Styles

Hi Friends,

Since this is my first blog post for the new year , I will take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and healthy 2021. I hope  this new year brings each one of you success, love, joy, meaningful opportunities and manifestation of goals. And in those times you are faced with challenges, I pray that you remain hopeful, press on  and courageously rise above it.

On the blog today, my post will be on how I styled my shirt dress to create two different looks.  Since shirt dresses mainly have a  relaxed no fuss silhouette,  it  provides the perfect styling canvas to create different fashion looks.  For instance, to give my dress that semblance of glamour, I decidedly wore a pair of floral stilettos. High heels, especially stilettos are a surefire  way to enhance the  classy look of an outfit.  Alternatively, for that cool street style aesthetic , I switched my stilettos for ankle boots and a moto jacket. I love that with these simple style changes I can get a lot of mileage out of this dress.

For that extra bit of panache, I incorporated  accessories with yellow gold details  (earrings, belt buckle and handbag).   Yellow gold tones, especially in jewelry are timeless and classic, therefore they make great investment pieces.    Scarves are another  versatile and chic accessory that can be worn  to enhance the overall  appearance to an outfit.  So for this blog post, I  included my scarf by wearing it as a hair tie.

This completes this blog post. Thank you for stopping by and reading.

‘Tis the Season for Sweaters

Hi Friends,

I hope everyone is keeping safe and continuing to hang in there as we all navigate through the  challenges of 2020.

On the blog today, my post will be on how I styled my Mela Pointelle Pullover Sweater.  Since it has gotten a bit chilly in Houston /Katy with the temperatures dipping to the low 60’s Fahrenheit ,  it was time to  put together some cooler weather outfits . And the one wardrobe staple that immediately comes to mind to withstand the brisk, nippy weather  is the all encompassing sweater .

Sweaters are timeless. It is that one classic  piece that will never go out of style and it comes in a wide variety of forms (such as cardigan sweaters, pullover sweaters, turtle neck sweaters, etc. ), fabric  (wool, cotton , cashmere),  silhouettes  (oversized, fitted and cropped) and  colors.  Therefore, there is a sweater for any  fashion look  that you may want to create.

The sweater that I wore for this blog post is my rust brown Mela Pointelle Pullover sweater.  Pointelle is a cotton knit fabric that is interlaced with small holes. Therefore,  it is the perfect  piece for layering. Consequently , I styled my sweater by layering it over a polka dot dress. By pairing these pieces together I loved how  the contrasting  hues of the darker sweater and the lighter dress complemented each other perfectly. Personally, I  found that this combination created a rather chic and polished outfit.  In regards to its functionality, the layering aspect meant that I was kept warm and cozy.

In  addition to being stylish, this sweater is versatile and practical guaranteeing that I get a lot of mileage out of this piece. For instance, I can easily switch my looks up by  layering it over a shirt and wear it with  jeans or leggings for a more casual, relaxed image or I can simply pair it with a mini skirt and high boots for that modish vibe.

To complete my look I wanted a touch of glitz.  So I purposely accessorized  with hair clips. Hair accessories are quite popular and they are such an excellent and effortless way to add that extra bit of panache and flair to  any outfit.

Blooming Floral Fall Dress

Hello my dear friends,

It is officially the enchanting  season of Fall where the autumnal days can feel a bit magical. Although the landscape in Houston does not completely transform to a sea of vibrant Fall foliage as normally seen in some of the other States, there are some visible environmental changes signaling that Autumn has arrived. The days have gotten shorter as the  typical scorching summer heat has significantly subsided. Some leaves have turned to the jeweled earthy fall tones providing a beautiful contrast against the greenery and  there are the proffering of all the typical Fall flavors, like pumpkin spice and apple cider. For me, Fall fashion is one of my favorite parts of Autumn.  Since the  cooler weather inspires me to be more creative and experimental in styling and layering different textures and prints,  to create unique outfits reflective of my personal style.

At the time I took these blog post pictures the weather was not cool enough to facilitate the wearing of layers, so for this Fall fashion blog post I decided to wear a bold  floral cotton  midi dress.  However, the beauty of this dress is that it provides styling versatility   for when the  Fall weather gets a bit  chilly.  In those times, I can simply layer a sweater over the dress  or for a more trendy street style effect I can unbutton the dress and wear it as a kimono  over jeans and a t-shirt.

The pockets on the dress is a bonus feature, guaranteeing functionality. Whilst the darling puff sleeves elevated the romantic feel of the outfit. Statement sleeves are very much on trend and this detail is a surefire of adding flair and pizzazz to any ensemble. Considering the conspicuous colors and print of the dress I intentionally complemented my outfit with  neutral accessories , such as woven wedges, a mustard color headband and a pair of tassel earrings.

This concludes this personal style blog post. As always,  I appreciate you all stopping by and reading.

Easy Breezy Summer Dress

Hello my friends!

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping  safe amidst the global pandemic. Given that this health crisis has disrupted our sense of normalcy and  halted most of our 2020 plans, it is more important than ever we take care of our mental and physical health. In doing so,  I found that engaging in creative activities is a surefire way of  fostering mindfulness, alleviating stress, creating a sense of purpose  and providing some sort of control in these uncertain times.

During the lockdown period, I spent a great deal of time in my  kitchen trying new recipes and  making some of my favorite Trinidadian dishes.   Also at that time  congregating in public places like restaurants  and malls  were restricted, so  my husband and I started taking evening walks along the nature trails in our neighborhood.  I found these walks to be  truly therapeutic.

Yet the one tried and true creative outlet that brought  me great joy, was putting my outfits together, although at that time I was just getting dressed  to go to the supermarket and get take out.  Nevertheless, this simple task brought me some comfort and a semblance of normalcy.

Hence, when some of the restrictions were lifted, I heeded all the necessary precautions and ventured out to take pictures for this blog post. Since the fashion choices of the moment are centered around more comfort and  less restrictions,  I thought it was fitting that I wore a flowy, easy breezy summer dress. Despite, its relaxed form, the darling angel sleeves and prairie-esque floral prints pivoted the stylish features of this dress.

The maxi dress silhouette meant that it can be styled with either a sweater, jacket or blazer thereby securing its position as the perfect transitional piece for the cooler months of the year.  Seeing that I wanted this dress to be the focal point, I kept my accessories at a minimum therefore only complementing my outfit with a burgundy hat and a pair of statement earrings.

This concludes this blog post. Thank you for stopping by and reading. And remember continue wearing your masks and keeping safe.

Love Always,

Sal.

My Little Dress Overall

Hello my lovelies!

I hope everyone is keeping well. Today my personal style blog post will be about how I styled my  belted dress overall.

Dress overalls, especially denim dress overalls, evoke memories  of my teenager days in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.   I especially remember that it was such a chic and no fuss piece. Recently, the fashion world has revived this article of clothing, giving it a bit of an update by making it more inclusive for all age groups by offering it in a variety of materials (velvet, corduroy and cotton) , lengths,  colors and styles.

I found that the cotton,  olive green dress overall  I wore for this blog post to be such a versatile piece. This is because the solid neutral color means that the styling options are endless and the cotton material guarantees its place in my closet as the perfect transitional piece.

The day I took these blog post pictures it was very cold causing me to style my dress overall by incorporating layers. For that refined, ladylike aesthetic, I decidedly  paired it with a floral blouse. This polished appearance was further enhanced by the flute sleeves of the blouse and pleated neckline. Also, the floral print details complemented the color of the dress overall which added to the  cohesiveness of the outfit. The bonus features; which are the belt and pockets, ensure  practicality and functionality of the outfit.

To complete my look,  I  accessorized  by adding a pair of on trend pearl hair clips and a fun, chain link circle bag.  Hence, I believe that dress overalls is a must have piece in every fashionista’s wardrobe.

Hope you all enjoy this blog post. Thank you for stopping by and reading.
