My Caribbean Inspiration

Hello my dearest lovelies!. I pray that everyone is doing well. My outfit post today will be in honor of my recent visit to my home in the Caribbean island of Trinidad.

Although modern communication technologies such as Skype, Facetime and WhatsApp has significantly bridge the distance gap and makes staying connected easier, for me being physically away from my family and friends  still remains the most challenging  part of my migration to North Dakota. Therefore, I jump at every chance I get to visit my loved ones back  home in Trinidad. Every time I visit it feels like I never left but the awareness that my stay is temporary makes me place a greater degree of appreciation and value for the time I spend with family and friends.

During my most recent visit, Trinidad and Tobago was experiencing a heat wave with temperatures soaring to as high as 35 degrees Celsius. Despite the extremely hot weather  the  tropical landscape  appeared to remain mostly  untouched by the heat and stood resilient in face of the canicular  days  which was made evident by the presence of dense tropical vegetation, gorgeous lush  clusters of bougainvillea and majestic poui trees in full bloom with the most spectacular poui blossoms.

Therefore upon my return to Minot, North Dakota,  the beauty of this tropical landscape inspired me to don a dress  somewhat reflective of a Caribbean vibe. The deep  green leaf print and its shape is a nod to foliage typical to the Caribbean and its light weight material makes it the perfect dress to wear on warm summer days. Although the dress by itself  is a statement piece  it is  versatile in terms of styling whereby it can be layered with a sweater  on the days when the temperature is cooler.

The pearl detailing on the collar of the dress added that  bit of preppy charm to the outfit.  I therefore decided to play on this polished look by cinching my waist with a broad belt for a lady like silhouette. However, since I was in a park at the time I wore this dress  I embraced a practical but on trend foot wear by wearing a pair of nude colour laced up ballet flats. The flat footwear provided a perfect balance to  the polished feel of the outfit  by adding a  casual touch and so making for an ideal daytime look.  Whereas on  those occasions I may want a more refined  sophisticated appearance I can pair my outfit with wedges or heels.

And so this concludes this blog post. I hope you all enjoy this post and thank you for reading.

Lots of love,

Salisha
